WWE Raw: GRADED (25 September) | Dean Ambrose Heel Turn Incoming?

[Music] hello everyone a class is very much in session my name is Jack from coal telecom and it’s time to look at raw from writer right up on the high altitude hills the Rocky Mountain in Denver role was in Denver this week and we’re gonna grade each segment you know the drill [Music] so we had a bit of a different opening on Raw this week which was basically a cold open I thought I was watching bloody Breaking Bad for a second a limousine pulled up outside the arena called and opened the door and he would step out but the birthday girl herself Stephanie McMahon but then also Triple H stepped out glower decor been a bit too glared at him Lee it at him like a Pokemon Corwin’s a tux top went down and then Triple H patted him on the shoulder and stalked off and then I mean Corbin basically gotten you a little bit of an argument with Steph not really an argument basically stepped hold off Corbin and said look if you’re such a tough guy why don’t you book yourself and two partners to take on the shield in the main event tonight and I was like this is pretty good opening device I’m now curious to see the Corbin choses for his to tag-team partners on the whole I’m gonna give this cold-open a b-plus I thought the reveal of Triple H was good it popped the crowd I thought yes it’s another example of Stephanie just tear in the testicles or fertility w superstar but at the same time Corbin is a smarmy heel and it’s nice to see him get his comeuppance now and again and also itself the main event of the night so I have no complaints actually thought was pretty good B+ next up we had the real proper opening segment of Monday Night Raw and it was the shield who hit the ring and Dean Ambrose basically got the mic and said we’re the workhorses of WWE where we’re really good at wrestling was the salient information in his speech Rollins and reigns then talked about how the shield have the keys to the kingdom and they said here they are these are the keys to the kingdom Rawlings lifted his Intercontinental Championship Roman reigns lifted the universal belt and Ambrose was in the middle like yep yeah cool well yep good good one guys well done Vancouver then came out and said you know what me and my two toe partners are gonna kick your asses later on in the main event and also no one in the locker room likes you and then as if to prove that point we’ve got the three dogs of war that you know strowman and Ziggler and drew who I thought you know I thought two of them would be a viral Corbin’s tag partners but it turns out they weren’t which made me a little bit more excited for the main event actually the three heels then took turns on the mic kind of tempting Dean Ambrose over to the dark side saying you know what you’re the only one without a title and and you know your boy is basically laughing at you they’re making a fool of you Dean Ambrose two years ago you were WV champion now look at you you haven’t got any gold your two friends do when you come and join us come on really mic work here especially from Dolph Ziggler I was really impressed with Ziggler here because it’s easy to forget because he’s quite whiny and annoying sometimes how actually very good he is on the microphone I’m also gonna give this segment of B+ because I think yes it was the same old formula of an opening of raw people standing around and talking and you know that does get old after a while but at the same time I thought the promo work here was excellent from pretty much everybody involved in this segment and there were a lot of people involved as well there a lot of moving parts that had to work together and it did I think I would have preferred if Ambrose is gonna turn him eventually for him just to do it out of the blue with no obvious hints like this one in the build-up and then he could explain the reasons for it after doing it for greater shock value but at the same time if they want to go this route I know how many major complaints I think this was a perfectly solid opening to Monday Night Raw lovely next up we had the opening match of money and I brought Finn Balor vs India mahal accompanied by Sonia Singh of course but also a company in both men with a mixed much challenge tag partner so Finn Bala had Bailey in his corner Jinder Mahal had the lovely Alicia for the story this match was basically the Bala was too fast and too good for Jinder Mahal so Sunil same tripped him at one point and Varro was like how dare you but then it was all right because Bailey Tripp jinder which was a Bauer character I thought come on Bailey even if he had good obey the rules Alicia Fox they went around the ring and basically confronted Bailey and Bailey went yeah I can’t swear and then after basically knocking out Alicia Fox Sunil Singh went round the ring to confront Bailey and she gave him a belly-to-belly suplex so she just kickin ass on the outside meanwhile in the ring jinder mahal was distracted and finn bálor rolled him up for the one-two-three I’m gonna give this a B yes it was a big advert for the mixed Mouse challenge but the mix of our challenge is fun and I like how it’s not existing in its own little universe the things happening on the mixed Mouse challenge do tie in to storylines on Raw and SmackDown and I appreciate that and yeah Bailey trip engine there was a bit of character but maybe finish showing her how to be a little bit cool a little bit bad ass next up the match that you’ve probably seen gift all over Twitter by now we’ll get to that in a second but this much was Natalya and The Bella Twins you can look but you mustn’t touch against the fayette-scott so pretty early on in the March Brie Bella sets up for the yes kicks and just knocks live Morgan how rocked oh I’m laughing it was really quite severe like she actually kicked live right in the face live Albin was knocked loopy if this was a real fight this was in UFC or whatever the referee would have stepped in and stopped it because Nick Morgan was barely there she was like you could tell her head was spinning somehow and you know what full credit to everyone involved in the match unlived Morgan because she battled on for a couple of minutes before wisely rolling out of the ring but um credit several of the match it did carry on they did keep going even though it was essentially now two against three and that wasn’t the plan live Morgan rolled out of the ring and made a tag after somehow kicking out – I don’t know how and then the referee had to like literally guide her into the ring to do a big triple vertical suplex spawn in the middle so she took that move and then rolled out and I think she went in the back so best wishes to live more but hope she’s okay because you know what I mean I know that I know that people get knocked silly and wrestling all the time it’s a dangerous sport it’s what they sign up for but the same time it’s never nice to see is it as you can imagine the match structure really suffers here everyone kind of doesn’t really know what to do but they muddle through and eventually Ruby right gets the win with the riot kick but it’s not a pretty watch unfortunately I’m gonna give this an F obviously the much really suffered when Liv Morgan was knocked out because it changed the whole plan and also I just think that I’m giving this an F because if I’m looking at the March objectively and try my best to just work out a match quality for it it’s probably a fee or a d-minus or something like that but I’m giving it an F because I think this should serve as a clear example of why w we shouldn’t rely on part-timers as much as they do basically we know that Brie Bella was never the sharpest wrestler in her heyday but she wasn’t this bad she’s obviously suffering from quite a bit of ring rust obviously she’s now got family to look after and everything her attention may be focused elsewhere apart from on actually wrestling in the ring she’s great at the whole PR stuff in the business stuff we know that but should W be bit asking her to do stuff that she’s clearly not 100% able to do each and every time she’s in a match and again I wanna make this clear I’m not blaming Brie Bella I’m not saying you deliberately kicked her in the face you’re rubbish she should never you should be fired from duty I’m not saying that at all I’m just saying they shouldn’t book her this way because someone’s been knocked out in the ring you know it’s not it’s not a good state of affairs I feel sorry for Bri because she’s had a massive backlash on Twitter I don’t know if she should get that but at the same time should she really even been put in that position also booking wise it’s kind of come back to bite on me degree on the backside because if you look at it you now had the riot squad who are the dust of the heels beating the Bella Twins I’m Natalia three of them doings biggest stars of the women’s division bnm two on three with one of their own partners injured and off to the butt so now the rights won’t look really brave and good and the bella twins look a bit rubbish so it’s not really worked out for them very well so that the combination of the decision to have Brie Bella in marches so regularly when she can’t really do it on the book in and everything gives this an F grade I’m afraid next up was the Connors Q segment and it was quite long but at the same time I still agreed this it’s not something you can grade it’s just a wonderful cause the W II seem to have a very good interest in raising money for so Fair Play next up Chad gable vs. corner from the Ascension EB Victor last week and he lost to Connor for no reason cleaned in the middle of the ring and Bobby Roode was on the outside going I’m giving this a D I really hated the book in here because the story so far has been the chudd gable has been an overly enthusiastic but very effective tug partner to Bobby Roode he helped lead beat the Ascension and I think a couple of tag matches yes he blind tugged in and made a bit of a nuisance of himself but he was the main spark in that team then he beat Victor clean on Monday Night Raw really great impressive victory for Chad gable now we’re being told he’s not actually that good lads he’s just lost to Conor absolutely clean as a whistle look at him he’s rubbish he’s small he’s under six foot next up the match of the night for me the raw Tag Team Championship match between the champion is drew McIntyre and Dolph Ziggler and the challenge is maybe one of the one of the best hurt teams in the world I love them the revival it was we had seen the revival wrestled babyface but that’s exactly what they did here and they were both both – and Dawson were wrestling their socks off they were clearly all out to impress here and yes they lost the March eventually spoiler with the a zigzag claim or combination so Ziggler and McIntyre retain but I was so impressed with a revival here I thought it really did themselves proud and I hope that this performance leads to greater opportunities for them lil further down the line as I said I really enjoyed this much I’m gonna give it an A – that was comfortably the best match of the night loved what the revival did here also Ziggler and drew did really well too so I just hope the revival get a shot those tag belts in the future but I can see why they’ve been forced to take a little step back for now next a combination of you know and do any kind of just mush to super star segments together to form like a weird special mutated segment like those alien babies you got in junior school and you’d put two of them together in a pod and then you’d put it in like the airing cupboard and in the morning hopefully it would have they would have made a baby but they never did they never did well this was kind of like that in a way it was Kevin Owens the Kevin Owens show mashed up with Elias typical in-ring concert although Elias did say Denver Colorado you don’t deserve a concert from me then Owens introduced his guests for the evening Leo Rush who was hesitant understandably to get in the ring and then the heels weren’t no no Leo come on come down it’s all right we’ve got a CPU mate a special seat it was a seat with a booster seat on top of it because neo Russia is really small ha yeah ha the joke is this short but no wanna see this segment was pretty good because then Leo rush won’t basically you guys three really charismatic guys all trading insults so you had Leo on one side lies and Kyo on the other side and then Leo went right I’m gonna come down to the ring now but know before I introduce my May and Denver’s own Bobby Lashley and Boing actually a huge pot because it was in his hometown yes but it’s proof that Leo rush can manufacture a bit of hype for Bobby Lashley that’s really useful for him I’m gonna give this a b-plus I have no major complaints with this but let’s see how the match did after it because this led to Elias versus Bobby Lashley there right so lies versus Bobby Lashley was I’ll read my notes I’ll tell you exactly what I’ve got here not that good and March tbh allies and Lashley do some stuff that’s what I’d say I don’t know what ok they then spilled on the outside and Owens chases rush around the ring then accidentally knees Lashley as he’s running around which leads to a DQ so basically Owens accidentally cost his team but they didn’t really care cuz they just wanted to be ugly a rush he did some parkour and some stuff to evade them and then Bobby Lashley saved in when enough he was gonna get his ass kicked I’m gonna give this much as say – it was fine nothing major happened but then afterwards I I have a little bit of a problem with Leo Russia’s booked in here because Leo rush has been running around an escape and people with very nimble very impressive gymnastic stuff but rarely getting in any offense of his own he is clearly terrified of larger men like Elias and Kevin Owens and if he’s so terrified and helpless against main roster superstars but he’s so strong and cool on – if I’ve live does that mean that all of two or five live are gonna be for in fear to the main roster Ross Superstars and if so that’s that’s a massive shame because they’re legitimately some of the most impressive wrestlers on the roster next up very short match between Knox and Alicia Fox it was shorts or basic stuff little bit sloppy in places but now jax picked up the win with a Samoan drop I’m gonna give it a say – I thought that it wasn’t that enjoyable but it was the right booking decision and now Jax continues on her return mini push of sorts and next up the main event basically it was the shield versus Corbin and two partners of his choosing and they were the authors of pain but before the match Baron Corbin cut a little mini promo and it was to be fair not a promo that I enjoyed because I was kind of screaming when he said it show don’t tell show don’t tell storytelling Corvin was going we all know that you’re gonna turn on them Dean we all know and for me that just rammed the point home to obviously the women who expected Dean Ambrose he’ll turn which therefore for any experienced watcher of wrestling made it too obvious the Dean wasn’t gonna turn you know I mean it wasn’t like the opening segment where they were planting the seeds it was more Corbin just buttering the point into our heads anyway the match itself was pretty I’m good I mean if shield obviously have a good record in six-man tag matches that’s how they made their name back in the day and it was great to see them here as well flying all over the place there were a lot of dives and stuff good dives not Nikki Bella dives Roman reigns picked up the victory with a big spear on Savarin Corvin and then afterwards we are am I still a bit where Dean Ambrose was on the floor outside the ring having done a dive or something to the outside and Seth and Roman was celebrating in a ring alone without him and he looked up at the ramp and there was Ziggler drew and strowman and he thought no and then he got back in the ring and celebrate with the shield it led to a nice pop but it leads to also an uncertain future for the shield boys and I really liked that I like that little ending of raw so for an overall grade four raw from Denver Colorado I’m gonna give it hmm it’s a hard one because it was a show of extremes everything was either pretty fun like the title match or the main event or it was terrible like Brie Bella accidentally knocking out Liv Morgan or like chad gable losing for no reason that sort of thing so it was a show filled with extremes but I think on the whole I’m gonna give it a b-minus I was torn between a C+ and a b-minus because I do genuinely think that was more good on this show than there was bad even though the bad was bad but I think that the good kind of outweighed it a little bit I wasn’t sure whether to give it a be – or a C+ but I went for the B – I rounded it up because I thought the opening and the closing segments overall were good and for me that wrapped it all together in a neat little package so a better raw then I think we saw last week for certain but we’ll Smackdown top it yet again tomorrow I guess we’ll find out that that’s been graded from Raw in Denver Colorado thank you very much for watching I’ve been jackin coho Cobb if you
