[music] [Bob Denst] My experience with Pima has been very rewarding [Georgia Brousseau] Pima College changed my life [Patricia Flores-Paquin] Pima Community College has had the impact on myself as a person to
feel that I have achieved some things. [Juan Ciscomani] So hard to answer that question
in less than 2 hours, to be honest with you, because I would have to tell my life story
after Pima so that you could really understand the impact that Pima has had on my life.
[Brousseau] Everything that I became or am now I owe to the time I spent at Pima College.
[Alexis Okurily] I believe that Pima Community College is what got me going and kind of gave
me that jump start to where I want to go [Ciscomani] I got exposed to leadership. I
became student body President, Board of Governors representative. One thing led to another.
I met people throughout the way. [Robert Ramirez] I’ve taken numerous courses
at Pima College over the last 20, 30 years. I’ve also been a professor at Pima. I’ve taught
Financial Management. [Denst] I have come to really appreciate Pima
College for what it offers especially for the value that I think is inherent.
[Bethany Lange] Pima Community College made continuing education available as a working
adult. [Denst] Pima helped me to take credits that
allowed me to transfer them to the University of Arizona which helped me just obtain my
bachelor’s degree last semester [Okurily] I was able to get a scholarship
that carried over to the university so that helped out a lot.
[Rameriz] Pima College is a great resource to help our employees further their educational
programs and their skills to come back and use them here at Vantage West to their benefit
and our benefit. [Jeannette Alcaraz] Pima has offered everything
that there is. All the resources are there. You just need to know how to go get them,
how to go push, and keep going, keep going. So I feel that it has changed my life completely
[Patricia Popp] As Director of Clinical Operations we place the students, the new students, in
the Rad Tech program at our sites. Also they ask me to go and speak to the class and give
advice to the students in the Rad Tech program. [Okurily] I was able to get a lot of the credits
that I needed at Pima. Everything transferred over and prepared me well for the University
and what I want to do next, for my doctorate. [Flores-Paquin] That feeling of achievement
is something that you wear in your heart, in your soul. You have that piece of paper that
says you have accomplished something. [Denst] I have also appreciated how available
all the instructors were. I’ve appreciated the facilities, the administrative support.
[Flores-Paquin] And it’s three years of sacrifice – it personally proved that I can do that.
That I can put myself through the grinder, as they say, and come out on the other side
[Denst] Pima also has impacted me in that it’s now has been a multi-generational experience
with both of my sons attending – my older son having just graduated and my younger son
still taking classes. So we all have our stories to share. In fact, my older son and I took
a class together last semester. [Popp] A lot of the skill I learned in college
have helped me – the organizational skills to do this job, writing skills. All those
general ed courses that we had to take. [laughter] You know, I go back – I think back on that
and it has helped in every aspect of this job. [Ciscomani] Pima gave me the opportunity to switch that focus in leadership from sports
into, you know, a board room like we’re sitting in here now.
[Alcaraz] Once you know that you’re a good academic curriculum. Once you know you’re
teachers are there to help you and that you’re motivated, it all comes together and it all
just flows. You’re working hard towards your career because you don’t just want a job,
you want a career that you can pursue and be competitive in the workforce.
[Ciscomani] The art of negotiation, selling, achieving projects and fund raising, those
were all things that for me, I really discovered during my time at Pima and since then I’ve
been using them and they have brought me to where I am now but it started right there
at Pima College at the East Campus. [Lange] Many of the other colleges in the
area do not have classes suited for working adults such as evening, weekends, online so
it has given me an opportunity where nobody else has. The opportunity is available.
[Ciscomani] Even my love life has been affected and my family by what Pima did for me because
now I have a beautiful family. Three kids Zoe who is 5, JuanyLee is 3 and Kenneth is
one. He just started walking. [Brousseau] The impact of a Pima College education
has built and maintained Pima County as the jewel that it is in this state.
[Okurily] I always look back at Pima Community College as my strong foundation.
[Ciscomani] What I learned at Pima is that they all want to see you succeed. It’s in
their best interests – the community’s best interests – to have every student succeed.
[Denst] I feel like Pima has wanted to see me succeed – wanted to help where they can.
And I know that they’re going to be here when I come back again.
[Brousseau] I love Pima College. [music]
