MFNSS TRACK MEET 2018

MFNSS TRACK MEET 2018

Student attendance tends to spike when you
have these activities. I also notice that if you have these type of activities
behaviours tend to drop because kids have something to do. Today at Ginew school we are hosting
our first annual track and field meet. Representation from some of our Manitoba
First Nation School Systems schools. We had a basketball tournament that
happened earlier this year and that was a success and so with that we thought
we’d make another event happen and with the support of MFNSS as well as a
the principal here at this school we just got the community involved. It’s
a collaboration with Mike Thomas from MFNERC and our school principal here
at Ginew school. Rylee Gilbert, Rylee was the one that
hosted the first annual track and field meet, along with chief and council we just
wanted to assist them in any way to make this event a success. I won the male athlete of the year plaque.
5 out of 10 schools participated this year so this is the first annual event
so hopefully next year they’ll be more. The get to hang out with each other
and talk to each other like last night some of the kids are playing
hide-and-go-seek from the two communities so they get to meet and then
network because all the kids are have a good time and they have something to
look forward to next year. Track and Field! Like and share our video!
